The RSM Experience

We are an internationally-ranked European based business school that focuses on doing business beyond borders. Our position at the crossroads of Europe’s diverging economies and cultures provides us with a powerful platform for understanding the multiplicity of global business. As one of the largest business schools in the world in terms of students and research faculty, our innovative programmes attract students from all over the globe, with around 95% of our students coming from outside the Netherlands.

At RSM students know that they are getting a world class MBA – we are accredited by all three of the world’s accreditation bodies and we enjoy consistently strong placements in all the rankings. But more than that, we continually hear from our students that, "it’s the collaborative way in which everyone works together coupled with many personal touches that makes the RSM MBA so special."

We offer three different MBA programmes;

Executive MBA Programme (EMBA)

The two year part-time weekend Executive MBA Programme, which begins in January every year, is designed for working professionals aiming to further develop their cross-functional capabilities and improve their business skills. Classes are held on Friday evenings and Saturdays every other week and include study trips abroad to leading partner business schools. Elective courses offer the unique possibility of the look in-depth in strategy, marketing, finance and information technology. Candidates will benefit from the academic rigor of a general management programme with an emphasis on examining the key drivers that transform our fast-moving business environment.

Global Executive OneMBA Programme (modular)

The Global Executive OneMBA Program is a 21-month modular executive MBA Program at the Rotterdam School of Management (RSM), starting in September every year. The program is designed for executives with extensive managerial experience aiming to accelerate their careers in a global setting. The OneMBA is a collaborative partnership of five top-ranked business schools, distinguished by its span of business cultures in Asia, Europe and North and South America. The program offers a unique combination of the best practices to an international education through a globally relevant, yet locally sensitive curriculum.

International MBA Programme (full time)

The one year International Full-time MBA Programme, starting in January, provides you with functional strengths in international finance, consulting, strategy and marketing. Participants emerge with the skills to think critically, creatively and analytically about the most defining issues in global business. They are taught by top-rated faculty, mentors and multinational corporate managers in one of most diverse classes of any MBA programme.

Business success is achieved by generating value through collaboration. Successful executives today must show competencies that extend beyond discipline-based knowledge, and include the ability for effective engagement within multicultural teams of knowledge workers. Business schools that emphasise diversity and foster an understanding of collaboration and networking skills within their programmes, provide executives with a significant competitive advantage. The Rotterdam School of Management Erasmus University can lay claim to being the very embodiment of the diversity of a globalising world – an executive education destination where cultures, nations and languages converge.

Executives understand how their own frames of reference impact on their decision-making processes. Through this understanding, they are better able to appreciate why different cultural perspectives induce the adoption of different business approaches. At RSM, we encourage participants to confront their beliefs and assumptions. By engaging with others across diversity, fundamental questions are raised, generating a learning environment that promotes the development of critical-thinking capacities, greater conceptual and creative thinking, decision-making capabilities and, most importantly; the ability to implement decisions in complex and diverse environments.

There are two distinct advantages that the academic and social diversity of RSM offers executives. The curriculum utilises an international mix of methodologies and course materials. Executive sensitivity to cultural differences and the capacity to lead multicultural teams is developed through real exposure to diversity that extends well beyond mere discussions of the topic. When combined with the substantive discipline-based content for which our academics are renowned, this diversity makes RSM highly attractive to recruiters looking for internationally-oriented executives who can function in various locations around the globe.

Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University: The destination for those inspired by complexity and passionate about diversity.

"When you are in a class with people from different backgrounds and countries, it is inevitable that there is a lot of discussion and debate. Yes, your ideas get challenged. But this is the beauty of the MBA – you learn from being challenged. It informs your thinking."

Paul van der Helm, 39

Currently: Executive MBA alumnus 2008
Position: Senior Manager Planning Center of Excellence for Nike IMEA

"Thanks to the international environment of the EMBA programme, I am now more sensitive to cultural differences and their business implications. Recently I managed to finalise an important deal with an Arab client because I was able to see the negotiation dynamics from his perspective. You learn how significant complex skills can be."

Frederic Phipps, 38

Currently: Executive MBA alumnus 2008
Position: Liquefied Natural Gas Trading and Supply Manager, Shell Gas and Power International, The Hague.
