Master Program: Master of Science in Economics
Learning purpose
Nijmegen’s Economics programme emphasises practical knowledge in the areas of business economics, financial economics and international economics. You will learn how to analyse issues in all these fields and to conclude by presenting your practical solutions to these issues. The strength of the programme lies in its small-scale approach through which individual students – within small study or work groups and under the direct supervision of their teachers – receive ample personal attention. In this way, you will acquire the knowledge and academic skills which you need for your requirements, and simultaneously develop your communication skills and professional aptitudes. This will give you the confidence you need in your subsequent career as an economist, whichever environment you might choose to work in. As an Economics student in Nijmegen, you will study ‘economics plus’. This means that in Nijmegen, as well as the standard courses such as macro- and microeconomics, accountancy and financial management, you will also be offered many extra courses, some of which you can choose yourself.
As a student of Economics in Nijmegen, you are not restricted to you own area of study. You will become familiar with all aspects of the economy. Through optional courses, you can deepen your knowledge of accounting and finance, financial economics or international economics. Throughout the programme, you will come into contact with other disciplines which lend their insights to Economics – Human Geography, for example, which can help us explain the importance of a company’s location. With the academic knowledge and skills that you will acquire in Nijmegen, you will be able be able to work as a specialist in many sections of society – for example as a manager, an advisor in financial economics, or a specialist in international economics. You might find employment in the banking or insurance sectors, the world of investment, credit provision, accountancy or any one of numerous national and international companies, organisations or governmental bodies.
