Radboud University: research and education intertwined
Where scientists come together, new insights emerge. One of the strengths of research at Radboud University is the way we forge cooperative links across national and disciplinary boundaries.
Our educational programmes are closely linked to scientific research. Academic education is entirely different from simply learning from books; we actively train our students to become critical thinkers. Our teaching programmes stimulate them to ask questions and to search for convincing answers derived from practice as well as theory.
At Radboud University Nijmegen (RU) you will study in an environment where everything is on an individual scale - and where quality flourishes. Because it is a campus with a truly international atmosphere, at RU you will find yourself at the heart of a global educational environment. With more than two hundred courses taught in English, our international staff is growing steadily. Extracurricular activities are regularly organized for international students and staff. This makes Nijmegen a desirable destination for international students. Thanks to the rapid introduction of the Bachelors and Masters degree system, our programmes fully meet the requirements of Europe’s new internationally-oriented higher education structure. This means that you will earn an internationally recognized degree when you complete your programme at Radboud University.
Our teaching philosophy: interactive and team-based
Radboud University has a unique teaching philosophy that differs from other universities in the Netherlands and in other countries. Lectures given to large groups are only a small part of the Masters curriculum in Business Administration. We believe in ‘interaction-based’ learning: as a student, you will be taught in small groups and you will work together with other students on assignments. This will enable you to develop your teamwork skills and will teach you how to work in a group.
This small-scale approach to teaching ensures individually oriented education that is based on close contact between teachers and students. Professors not only know the students by name, they also know each student’s potential. This enables them to provide sound guidance and to offer talented students additional opportunities to develop their capabilities.
Nijmegen School of Management offers the following Master programmes or specializations in English:
Business Administration
The Master of Science programme in Business Administration is based on the idea that organizations operate in a dynamic landscape and that they are not isolated from external factors; they constantly evaluate and adapt their organization to cope with the changing environment. They also need to interact with other organizations, governments, institutes or consumers in their home country or abroad. The central question is: how can you evaluate, develop and manage these internal and external interactions and relationships to prepare your organization for the new landscape? During your studies, you will familiarize yourself with theories, methods and instruments, but above all you will develop a critical attitude. You will learn about multiple ways to approach any problem.

Environmental Spatial and Environmental Planning
The international and European dimension to spatial and environmental planning in the nations and regions of the EU is the focus of our full-time Master specialization. During the programme, students have the opportunity to critically discuss the spatial implications of EU policy in a comparative perspective, and to better understand the multi-level system of governance in an integrated European Union. The Master specialization gives attention to aspects of coordination of policies and actions vertically (among different levels of government), horizontally (among different policy sectors) and geographically (across administrative boundaries).
A core strength of the ESEP Masters specialization is the combination of a thorough theoretical and methodological foundation with a critical exploration of actual spatial developments and policy processes. Theoretical approaches taught cover institutional perspectives and theories on European integration, planning and policy-making. Methodologically, the focus is on comparative approaches to allow for a better understanding of differences in planning systems and policies across Europe.
This is a specialization of the Master programme Spatial Planning and the Master programme of Social and Political Sciences of the Environment.
Human Geography
Human geographers are investigating the social and cultural aspects of the (man-made) environment on and near the surface of the earth. Specializations like population geography, economic geography and the geography of developing countries belong to this geographical sub-discipline. Parts of neighbouring disciplines, like economics, sociology, psychology, political science and anthropology are brought together and integrated with one another.
Simply stated, both physical and human geographers try to describe, explain and understand the patterns of (spatial) distribution of natural and cultural phenomena situated on or near the earth's surface.
You can choose from 5 specialisations:
- Economic Geography
- Conflicts, Territories and Identities
- Globalization, Migration and Development
- Urban and Cultural Geography
- Europe: Borders, Identities and Governance
