Opleiding: PGCE Child, Adolescent and Family Mental Health Work

Learning purpose

The purpose of this programme is to offer you two modules to provide to all those with experience of working with young children, adolescents and families in a variety of settings, the opportunity to update, enhance and develop their critical understanding, knowledge and advanced practice capabilities in child and adolescent mental health work (CAMH) in multidisciplinary and multi-agency settings.

 

Will enable you to explore, critically examine and understand the contemporary health and social policy initiatives which support such work, in particular the integrated children's service (ICS) agenda and the contradictions of policy and challenges of interdisciplinary and interagency work in this context.

 

The course will equip you with both, the sophisticated knowledge needed and capabilities required to undertake CAMH work and in supporting others in working with children and families, to do so confidently and safely; that children's mental health can both be their business ("Children's mental health is everyone's business" DoH 2006 and DfES 2004) and that they feel capable to address it.

 

The course aims to develop authoritative clinical leadership and professional practice capability in the field of child and adolescent mental health.

 

This course will benefit individuals working in these areas

• Anyone with experience in working with children, young peoples and families in London and the home counties, who have some knowledge and understanding and child and adolescent mental health issues and who wish to significantly deepen and develop their knowledge, skills and capabilities in their own work and in working with others;
• Prospective students maybe working in health, mental health, local authority, educational settings and or within the voluntary and independent sector with babies, children, adolescents and families.

 

 

Target audience

Anyone with experience in working with children, young peoples and families in London and the home counties, who have some knowledge and understanding and child and adolescent mental health issues and who wish to significantly deepen and develop their knowledge, skills and capabilities in their own work and in working with others;

 

 

Programme

By the end of the programme participants will be able to

 

• Be able to critically evaluate practice in the light of policy relevant knowledge, theoretical explanatory models and evidence bases treatment for child, adolescent and family mental health issues
• Be able to critically articulate and utilise knowledge of therapeutic practice in child, adolescent and family work, in work with families and others
• Have an in in-depth knowledge and applied understanding of inter-disciplinary and interagency cultural competence in CAMH practice
• Be able to effectively promote and advocate for the welfare and mental health needs of children, adolescents and their families.

Students will be expected to submit a 3000 critical service and practice analysis of own work setting with reference to contemporary CAMH policy-National service benchmarks, SWOT analysis and action plan for practice and service developments and a 3000 word critical evaluation of evidence based interventions used with a child, family or carers in the context and multi-disciplinary and multi-agency work, evidenced from own practice.

 

 

Entry Requirements

We welcome applications from graduates with a good honours degree, or equivalent qualification, in an appropriate subject. We also consider candidates with other relevant qualifications and individuals with a minimum of three years' work experience. Those without formal qualifications need to demonstrate relevant work experience and the ability to study at postgraduate level.

English language requirements

You must have competence in English language and we normally require Grade C GCSE or an equivalent qualification. The most common English Language requirements for international students are IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL (paper based) 575 or TOEFL (internet based) 90 with specified minimum scores for each component.

 

 

Professional perspective and employment market

Prospective students maybe working in health, mental health, local authority, educational settings and or within the voluntary and independent sector with babies, children, adolescents and families.
