Opleiding: MSc Design Engineering and Manufactoring Management
Learning purpose
This Design Engineering and Manufacturing Management Masters takes graduates of engineering disciplines and equips them with specialist knowledge in design engineering and manufacturing management to fill the sought after vacancies in global markets.
The course emphasises strategic and visionary design, innovative use and application of technology. You will explore the development of a commercially relevant design philosophy and the necessary knowledge in manufacturing management. The course will encourage you to investigate relevant and emerging design issues together with the challenges offered by commercial constraints and adopt a hands-on approach in tackling such tasks. You will be encouraged to examine business issues relating to processes and materials, CAE, validation and testing methods, sustainable design, CAD visualisation and simulation, rapid prototyping, and new technologies, amongst others and managing such operations in commercial settings.
This MSc Design Engineering and Manufacturing Management is highly student-centred and hasa careful balance will be maintained between theory and practice and our teaching and learning approach will be based on practical projects, problem based learning and assessment by coursework.
Programme
All new students will take part in a week long induction that will serve as introduction to the programme, department and the University. Induction will also include a specific health and safety training for safe use of the facilities in the department.

Attendance to all scheduled classes and prescribed activities are compulsory and it is a strict requirement. Where your attendance fails to meet this without documented evidence, you may be excluded from the assessment, resulting in the delay of your qualification and award.
Includes reports, presentations, projects and thesis writing.
- Advanced Manufacturing Engineering and Management Practice (60 Credits) - Compulsory
- The aim of the module is to develop high level skills in technologies relating to design and manufacturing engineering. The module also aims to cover the necessary manufacturing management practice through simulation of real-life scenarios.
- Engineering Project (30 Credits) - Compulsory
- This module aims to integrate the knowledge and skill based modules through integrated team projects to contextualise, exemplify and consolidate the analytical and technical knowledge gained on the programme.
- Principles of Design Engineering and Manufacturing Management (30 Credits) - Compulsory
- Aims To build knowledge in the fundamentals of the relationship between Design Engineering and Manufacturing Management; To build knowledge of current industrial practices and state-of-the-art processes in manufacturing and its management; To develop skills for research into emergent practices and processes in design engineering and management; To develop skills for reviewing, analysing, reporting and presenting the effects of new and emerging practices and processes.
- Thesis (60 Credits) - Compulsory
This module provides students with the opportunity to assimilate the advanced knowledge and skills gained during the programme, enabling them to define and execute an in-depth study into an aspect of corporate practice in their chosen discipline.
Entry Requirements
We welcome applications from graduates with a good honours degree, or equivalent qualification, in an appropriate subject. We also consider candidates with other relevant qualifications and individuals with a minimum of three years' work experience. Those without formal qualifications need to demonstrate relevant work experience and the ability to study at postgraduate level.
You must have competence in English language and we normally require Grade C GCSE or an equivalent qualification. The most common English Language requirements for international students are IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL (paper based) 575 or TOEFL (internet based) 90 with specified minimum scores for each component.
Professional perspective and employment market
Graduates from the MSc Design Engineering and Manufacturing Management degree will be expected to enter into design engineering with highly specialised manufacturing engineering skills that are much sought after qualities worldwide. The programme content will be enriched by keeping industrial partner's engagement active and offering sponsored projects. This will also help to support the students about the current opportunities and future trends in their relevant employment sector.
