Middlesex University
Opleiding: MA Inclusive Education
Learning purpose
MA Inclusive Education is based upon gaining knowledge of best practice in an area of specialism through research and literature, implementing this and researching the effect or impact on practice. This may be through practical, self-directed learning activities. Participants are encouraged to focus assignments on identified institutional and personal needs and to use practitioner action enquiry and reflective practice as a learning model.
Programme
You are introduced to a body of theoretical and professional knowledge in a specialist area relevant to your role; you learn to use professional and theoretical findings from published research to inform practice; and you develop the skills and outlook of the practitioner- researcher. Accreditation of Prior Learning APL is available in all but the dissertation module. Other courses such as certificates- diplomas in SEN or SPLD, gifted and talented projects, master classes and postgraduate university studies are assessed for credit by portfolio unless they are already credit rated. They must be at Level 4 and be recent, relevant and fit in with the ethos and standards of the programme.
Module 1 Critical evaluation of policy and principles for your chosen specialist area and their practical application.
Module 2 Exploring pedagogies and how they are affected by styles of teaching. How critical appraisal of learning theories can enable students to reflect on their own learning experiences. Reflections on how theoretical underpinnings and types of curricular relate to student experience, learning and development with a particular emphasis on inclusive practice.
Module 3 What is a research problem? Types of research processes and outcomes. The discourses of research, the roles and strategies involved. Data collection options and managing the literature. The dissertation as a designed object, its value for personal change, and in professional and academic contexts.
The programme is wholly by distance learning. The learning time for each 60-credit-point module is 600 hours.
Assessment is entirely by coursework. They are marked on a graded scale which is criterion referenced, although overall the work is assessed on a pass-fail basis. The dissertation is 15,000 to 20,000 words.
Entry Requirements
Normally a first degree and teaching experience. Tutors with experience of SpLD or other areas of specialism will be considered.
English language requirements
You must have competence in English language and we normally require Grade C GCSE or an equivalent qualification. The most common English Language requirements for international students are IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL (paper based) 575 or TOEFL (internet based) 90 with specified minimum scores for each component.
Professional perspective and employment market
After completing the course many past students have moved into management positions in Mainstream and Special education as well as in advisory work. Students report a close connection between their studies and improved inclusive practice.
Our Careers Service offers you a range of support both while you're studying with us - and after you've graduated.
