Middlesex University
Middlesex University
Opleiding: Professional Practice, MA
Learning purpose
The MA Professional Practice is a highly flexible postgraduate qualification designed for professionals working in cultural and creative industries who have substantial professional experience. You may be looking to update your professional or academic qualifications and have found that the structure of many courses clash with the pressures and complexity of full-time work. The programme is designed to enable you to gain academic credits for professional experience and achievement and to use this as the basis for a major project in your professional field. The award title is MA Professional Practice (negotiated subtitle). The negotiated element is subject to a proposal by the student and agreement by the University. The proposed title is submitted as part of the programme planning module and reflects the specific focus of the RAL portfolio and proposed major project. Examples of typical title awards MA Professional Practice (Film Education), MA Professional Practice (Theatre Design), MA Professional Practice (Linguistics), MA Professional Practice (Graphic Design), MA Professional Practice (Arts Administration), MA Professional Practice (Journalism), MA Professional Practice (Fine Art)
Programme
The programme's long-term value derives from its unique, award-winning structure. By recognising your professional experiences, you are invited to reflect on past achievement, current work and future direction. The course enables you to make full use of your skills, and find ways to align current work with future aspirations.
This is a flexible, distance learning programme, with the option of campus-based tutorials. You can study at your own pace anywhere in the world. Every student is assigned a personal supervisor who supports each candidate through the programme phases. Contact is normally maintained by email, although campus-based tutorials are available. Every module has a detailed distance learning guidebook.
This is a distance learning programme. There are no traditional taught elements requiring attendance at the University and you can work where and when it suits you.
Phase one assessment consists of a portfolio and essay (normally 90 credits). In phase two there is a programme plan (10 credit points) and a Research Methods module (30 credit points). In phase three there is a major research project (60 credit points).
Entry Requirements
You are expected to have at least five years full-time professional experience at a relevant level. Initially, your application is considered on receipt of a completed application form along with a full CV. Where English is not your first language, we will expect you to provide IELTS results of at least 6.5, or TOEFL 575 paper, or 232 computer, or an equivalent before starting the programme.
