Target audience
This is a flexible, integrated masters programme for educational practitioners to focus their scholarship, research and enquiries on developing more effective practice while gaining an MA Education.
Programme
Choice of modules include a focus on
- Early Years-Foundation Stage
- Teaching and Learning
- Leadership and management
- Coaching
- School based projects
The latter are generic modules, which can be used for specialist areas, for Developing Professional Practice and Action Enquiry.
All modules are based upon gaining knowledge of 'best practice' through research and literature, implementing this and researching the effect or impact, This may be through workshop activities, self-directed learning activities or in a collaborative learning community (including online). Participants are encouraged to focus assignments on identified institutional and personal needs and to use practitioner action enquiry and reflective practice as a learning model.
Attendance and engagement in the programme is expected. Face to face modules may have 15- 20 sessions. Some modules are in distance learning mode where online contribution is expected.
Includes assignments, portfolios of evidence and action research projects. The learning process involves a combination of selective inputs, workshop activities, school based work, self-directed enquiries and research, and online learning. The modules can be undertaken at a distance from the University.
Entry Requirements
Normally a first degree and working in Education. All programmes are in English language for instructions and assessment.
Entry requirements Normally a first degree with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and teaching experience in a mainstream school.
English language requirements
You must have competence in English language and we normally require Grade C GCSE or an equivalent qualification. The most common English Language requirements for international students are IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL (paper based) 550 or TOEFL (internet based) 79 with specified minimum scores for each component.
Professional perspective and employment market
The programme is designed to enable participants to enhance their career development. Many participants gain promotions. Others use evidence collected from the assignments as evidences for threshold and AST applications. Participants report a close connection between what they have studied and how their practice has improved.
