- Dissertation (MSc only)
This programme is based at our flagship Hendon campus.
Student should attend all scheduled classes and prescribed activities. Where attendance fails to meet the minimum required to meet the learning outcomes of the module (80% of the time) you may be excluded from the assessment and be graded X in the module.
Examinations, assignments, oral presentations, practical assessment and experimental reports.
- Advanced Molecular Pathology (60 Credits) - Compulsory
- This module aims to introduce principles and methods of human genetic analysis with special reference to the contribution of genes to our burden of disease. It also explains the role of celluar and genetic changes and molecular mechanism of diseases such as, cellular adaptations and neoplasia. The module also covers the process involved in regulation of gene expression and the current laboratory methods available for investigation. Topics of human disease genes, medical genetics and genetic testing will be covered.
- Molecular and Cellular Biology (30 Credits) - Compulsory
- The module aims to provide an introduction to the study of cells including the structures processes, and communication within and between cells. The module will focus on nucleic acids and protein synthesis. It also concentrates on the patterns of inheritance of disease in humans. In addition it will provide instruction, skills development and hands-on experience in the application of current molecular techniques.
- Research Methods and Ethics for Biomedical Sciences (30 Credits) - Compulsory
- The module aims to provide a firm foundation in risk assessment, experimental design, analysis and analytical techniquies. It prepares students for laboratory work and research projects by covering areas of laboratory safety and common techniquies.
