Opleiding: Lawyers' Management Program (LMP)
Learning purpose
Lawyers around the world currently have one challenge in common: they are experiencing a period of extreme turmoil and change.
The global financial crisis, coming as it does after a period of sustained growth, has brought many of the challenges of delivering legal services into sharp focus. As Warren Buffet famously noted, you only find out who is swimming naked when the tide goes out.
Lawyers are, therefore, having to review both their internal management and leadership style: exploring new ways of providing the services required in the most efficient and effective ways possible. A clearer understanding is required of the impact which the changing external environment is having upon the legal market as a whole and their own services in particular.
Market changes of course bring both threats as well as opportunities: the challenge for lawyers is knowing the difference between them - limiting the risks which change is bringing, and exploring fully the new opportunities.
Analysing and highlighting how an organisation can work better is the important first step, but building a platform for change and leading a group of individuals along that path is often the bigger challenge. While the technical skills of a lawyer have always been prized within organisations, today more than ever, lawyers need also to be both good managers and, ideally, great leaders.
This two-week program consists of one week’s stay in Madrid and another in London, with an on-line learning module in between.
*The residential week in London has been arranged in cooperation with the College of Law of England and Wales.
Target audience
The Lawyers’ Management Program (LMP) has been designed for those who currently are, or have the potential to, manage and lead groups of lawyers. The job titles and specific responsibilities vary across different jurisdictions, although many are: Managing Partners, Practice or Office Managers, Heads of Department, Heads of Legal, Company Secretaries
Programme
The three month program is designed with the busy schedule of senior lawyers in mind. An initial residential week in Madrid is followed by a period of on-line learning and then a second residential week in London.
Participants will benefit from analytical frameworks, leadership skills and tools that can make an important impact on their practice, and the unique combination of residential instruction and a cutting-edge technology platform with asynchronous online sessions and live interactive video functionality.
