Learning purpose
The central theme in logistics is the process of planning, organising and controlling the flow of materials, services and/or information from suppliers to end users or customers. Logistics does not only play a major role in transport organisations but also in production companies such as Fuji Film, Royal Dutch Shell, NedCar, Hewlett Packard, Philips and also for banks such as ABN AMRO and ING.
Logistics is no longer a process that only involves the supply chain manager. It is a series of interrelated activities that also affect the boardroom, from the chief financial officer and chief information officer to the chief operating officer and chief executive officer. Companies spend billions of dollars annually on logistics, representing anywhere from 20 to 30 percent of their overall costs of doing business. It is obvious that logistics is of vital essence to the success (or failure) of an organisation. If you look at the leaders in any industry, the top managers are becoming increasingly proficient at logistics as they realise that it will help them get a competitive advantage in a constantly changing business world.
Programme
