Master Program: Master Financial Engineering
Learning purpose
Financial Engineering provides innovative solutions for pricing, hedging, trading and portfolio management problems by employing advanced mathematical methods and computer technology. By this highly interdisciplinary program the HECTOR School answers to the needs of financial companies as well as investment or commercial banks but also companies with a strong corporate finance department. Participants will be able to understand complex financial strategies, computational proficiency and to get a managerial vision of financial processes.
Target audience
- Young professionals (age 27 - 40) identified as high potentials in companies like rating agencies, privat or public banks and also young professionals working in corporate finance departments of consolidated companies.

Programme
The aim of the Master Program in Financial Engineering is to prepare graduates for executive functions in the finance area. The courses should enable graduates to develop and implement innovative solutions for Financial Engineering problems based on both solid knowledge of finance theory and mathematical methods.
The University of Karlsruhe has a long tradition in finance and capital market research. The Karlsruhe capital market database, managed by the faculty, offers an excellent basis for empirical capital market research. The faculty analyzes stochastic and econometric models of financial markets, and applies stochastic methods of operations research and game theory to financial problems. It also has excellent know-how in electronic markets research and platform design, which are important in understanding many of the developments in Financial Engineering.
The program is not limited to the aim of providing information governing current problems: The focus lies in problem analysis and solution techniques that have emerged due to rapid changes in the market.
