Master Program: LLM in Finance and Law
Learning purpose
Financial markets require legal experts that are versed in finance and economics and are able to crystallize financial incentives in deal structures. The LLM programme is targeted at students with an academic background in law, economics or business as well as practitioners with an interest in combining theoretical with specialized training in the finance and economic methods necessary for dealing with the challenges of contemporary corporate legal practice and finance.
The curriculum, which was developed in close cooperation with leading financial institutions and regulators, ensures that high academic standards are maintained throughout and that the lectures, case studies and simulations have a high degree of practical relevance. A two-month internship at one of Duisenberg school of finance's sponsors will also provide students with the opportunity to receive practical and rigorous training in the areas of accounting, banking, insurance, international business law, financial regulation and central banking.
Duisenberg school of finance will seek accreditation for the LLM in Finance and Law by the NVAO (Accreditation Organisation of The Netherlands and Flanders).
Target audience
Duisenberg school of finance offers a career oriented training in Finance and Law leading to an LLM. The programme is designed for students who require an understanding of economic and legal methods necessary for dealing with the new and rapidly changing financial instruments and legal areas of modern commercial practice. In particular, it seeks to provide students with competence in corporate finance, quantitative methods and financial instruments and more focused skills in corporate law, international business transactions and emerging markets law and finance. Case analysis and simulations will be integrated in the programme. The training, which is strongly international with an emphasis on the legal areas of the European Community and the United States, introduces students to the methodological tools employed in modern accounting, corporate finance, and international business law analysis. Not only do the courses encourage students to make active use of such tools, but they are introduced to most recent research in the main areas of finance and law.
Programme
The programme has a total of 70 ECTS. In order to obtain an LLM degree, students must have a minimum of 60 credits through course work and a total of 10 credits for the master's thesis. The seven mandatory core courses will provide students with in-depth coverage of the key concepts and topics in finance and will also serve as a solid foundation for the elective courses. Participants have a wide range of electives to choose from the Duisenberg school of finance portfolio of courses. The programme of electives will allow participants to focus on areas of particular interest and relevance to their current job or future career.

Entry Requirements
With the LLM in Finance & Law programme, Duisenberg school of finance seeks to attract ambitious individuals with a legal background who intend to further their careers by combining two complementary fields and developing an expertise in modern financial market techniques, accounting, corporate finance and the structuring of modern commercial transactions. The LLM programme is also aimed to help students with some finance or economics background to gain additional financial expertise and build their knowledge of legal matters that pertain to corporations and transactions. The courses are designed to provide essential tools and concepts for all students interested in the area of international finance and corporate law and the intersection between business law and finance. Applicants are expected to hold a good degree from an accredited university in law, economics or a business related subject. Students, unless they are native speakers, must achieve a level of TOEFL of 600 or IELTS 6.5. Professional experience is helpful but not essential.
