Program Overview
The BSL Executive MBA program brings together executives from many different sectors of business who share the desire to improve their problem-solving capabilities in a rapidly changing business world. BSL's pragmatic approach provides an atmosphere for high quality discussions among professionals. In dividing our EMBA into two parts, we focus on what makes the true difference in business: the technical know-how and the "soft" skills of leadership and people management. This is presented in two parts: The Foundation - Part I including: Personal Leadership Development, Business knowledge and Strategic Management and: The Integration - Part II (final 6 months) including: Entrepreneurial Workshop, The Real-Life Management Report, Elective Leadership courses and Career Counseling. For BSL’s EMBA in Sustainable Business specialization, participants complete the Foundation Part I and then join the innovative Diploma in Sustainable Business for the second year.
Active Learning
The Executive MBA focuses on active learning where students are engaged directly in the learning process. An international student body enhances cross-cultural perspectives with professors who are active business professionals. Participants are challenged to move out of their “comfort zone” with an open mind and flexible attitude in order to competently solve problems and make informed and effective decisions. Only by exploring different approaches, will innovative and creative solutions be found – so necessary in today’s international business arena.
The Management Report or In-Company project
BSL's Executive MBA program includes an applied Management Report (MR), or for the Sustainable Business program, an in-company sustainability project. For the MR, students must develop a topic and complete a report pertaining to one of three broad areas: the critique of a business situation that has already taken place, the expansion of an existing business, or the creation of a new business. A sustainability project conducted in collaboration with companies, communities or NGOs forms an integral part of the Sustainable Business option.
Program Duration
BSL's Executive MBA program offers three formulas, each developed to best accommodate the schedules and interests of practicing professionals.
- BSL's Modular MBA is a 1-year, full-time program involving 3-day course modules. Under the modular structure, a part-time MBA may take between 1.5 and 3 years to complete.
- BSL's Executive MBA program runs on Saturdays and in 3-day workshops for one year and then subsequently once a month for another 6 months
- BSL’s Executive MBA in Sustainable Business is a 2-year part-time program and offers an MBA from BSL and a joint Diploma in Sustainable Business from BSL and the University of St. Gallen.
Program start dates for the MBA and EMBA are in February and September.
Recognition
The graduate degree in business at BSL is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council of Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). It is equivalent to a one-year Master's Degree in the US and to a one-year European postmaster's degree.
